Automatic Train Inspection Center
The Automatic Train Inspection Center is used to perform ultrasonic inspection of any type of train’s wheels. The system operates with non-contact measurement methods (such as laser and ultrasonic technologies), and records every train passes with an historic dedicated to each train’s wheel in its software database. The wheelset is locked and lifted on small cylinders which then proceed to rotate, which allow the system to detect all defects of the wheels and brakes of that wheelset. Thanks to the RFID technology, the system is able to associated the data measured and calculated by the software with the train number associated to this automatic equipment identification (AEI).
There are a lot of possible systems which can be part of the Automatic Train Inspection Center. The commonly integrated systems used are ultrasonic wheel flaw inspection instrumentation (used to determine cracks), automatic wheel profile measuring system (used to determine the profile of the wheels), wheel flat determination instrument (a flat reduces performances of the wheel and causes sound and vibration during the travel), brake shoe/brake disk and brake lining abrasion measuring instrument (used to control the brakes’ wear), axle bearings and brake heat measuring instrument (used to detect abnormal high temperatures), and wheel surface flaw detection system (used to determine tread defect and flaws).
The Automatic Train Inspection Center is a real modular system since one or as much as you want integrated system can be part of it. The system should be placed indoor with its own infrastructure in a maintenance depot. We don’t recommend putting this system indoor in a building with other systems since the sensors and technologies used are very sensitive. The system doesn’t require much space as everything is installed directly on the tracks with the cabinet (electrical and computer) nearby. The system needs a foundation work under the rails in order to install the integrated systems. The system doesn’t require much maintenance other than yearly calibration and controls, and cleaning of the cameras & lasers on a regular basis.
